And that's what happens when I draw, thoughts come flying out of the abyss about basically nothing. I sadly tend to think about major embarrassing situations from the past and how I could of avoided them or current problems troubling me. But recently I've been thinking about my art, my style to be more specific.
I love Osamu Tezuka anything, Akira Toriyama's overall style and I love Eiichiro Oda's character design and somewhere down the road over a period from like 2000 (my early stages of drawing) to now, 2009 I've been insanely inspired by what I like about those three. Of course I never tried to mimic them but it's hard for me to honestly tell if I've created my own personal style or just something really weird lol. I don't want to be a copycat or too generic.
I'm probably really over-thinking this but I guess my question would be how do you describe my art, what do you like or don't like about it?

Very Great and Talented Artist who I consider my pals and Inspirations
I SHOULD WAIT A MINUTE BEFORE HITTING SEND . I actually draw mostly to distract myself from how much of a twat I've been throughout my life. If I stop drawing or doing something similar my brain fills up with those embarassing thoughts, like, "oops, I was a dick to a total stranger," "oops, I fucked that up majorly and now a friend will never talk to me again," "oops, I didn't ask my crush out and she graduated this year, never gonna see her again" and then I'm stuck thinking about shit like that until I go to sleep or start doing something creative again or cry for a couple hours.
Lol it's the exact opposite for me. When I'm doing nothing like watching tv or staring into space my mind is blank but as soon as I start drawing, everything stupid I've ever done in my life comes flying into my head. Its a wonder why I still draw!
It is but yeah I love drawing, It's just that the retarded crap flies into my mind while i'm drawing, yep too much on my mind I suppose. Nothing can be too perfect sadly lol!
Your art's got a Toriyama/90's sort'a vibe to it but it is definitely your own style. Your art's got aces in personality, you don't need to change it.
Beyond that, it's your prerogative to try and change, so you know, you can keep going, improving on this path, or you could do something new. It's entirely up to you and asking others will probably just lead you in circles.
Oh no I didn't want to change I like my old school look, just a bit curious. And you're right, wondering about it will only keep me going in circles. I don't really know why i've been thinking so much about it lately.
What I like about your art is the positive energy I get from it whenever I look at it. It's very charming with the genuine expressions of the characters. Your drawings are easy to connect to and can feel like photographs in the sense that you really capture a moment or document your characters in a very real way. The designs have a youthful punk and rock feel to them that adds to the flair they have but it's not overly done or trying too hard- it fits just right. When I see your art I am not sure what the immediate influences are until I got to see your comic pages. I do see some touches of your cited influences in there but who isn't inspired by them? hehe. There's nothing wrong with it and you still have your own style and do things in your own way. I think part of the charm of your art indeed can be found in the connection your art makes with the artists you admire and are inspired by. You have bold characters and line qualities I love, but they aren't "in your face" or overwhelming, instead they are very welcoming and friendly, which I don't see often with art that has more black ink areas and line thickness.
I don't think you have anything to worry about with regards to being original or copying or the like- your style is so very unique and I would love for more people to see it.
Thank you, I'm feeling a bit more content know. Everything you commented on are basically what I was worried about, the inking(especially the inking), the characters, the overall style description- I'm very happy now that I know my characters and style are their own and I'm not mimicking anyone. Thank you again, I'm really glad you commented!
